What will happen during my consultation?
Our expert Scar Camouflage / SMP (Scalp Micro Pigmentation) technician will carefully analyze your scar(s) or scalp to see if digital-needling will benefit you. We also evaluate your natural skin tone/ coloring and may need to carry out 1 or 2 microscopic '"color-match" tests in your scar/ scalp. These test areas will develop over a month giving us a realistic impression of how the scar / scalp will look long-term. This also ensures that the correct colors were chosen for you skin tone and that the finished results will be as close as to what we want.
How long will this treatment take?
Each treatment session usually takes about 1 hour or so for smaller areas and longer for larger areas, and typically multiple sessions are required to fine tune your scar camouflage and or scalp/smp tattoo.
What will happen during my treatment?
With scar camouflage we work with multiple blends of pigment to recreate the tonal variance of your natural skin color or hair color. This color is matched as perfectly as we can get to look as natural as possible. For digital-needling also known as "dry needling" technique, we use an electronic device to stimulate the skin’s natural healing response with no ink just a dry needle.
Anything I need to know before I begin treatment?
It’s crucial that your skin color isn’t tanned at the time of your treatment for scar camouflage. This is because the "prescriptive" skin-tone pigments that we choose to match your skin color need to be blended to match your natural skin color (untanned). Because if we don't match your natural untanned skin color and when your tan fades, you will end up with a mismatched color on your treated scar and it will look darker than the surrounding natural skin color after your tan is gone. So be sure not to tan before your skin tone matching appointment.
What about after my treatment?
It’s important after your scar camouflage or SMP treatment that you keep your sun exposure to a very minimum or none at all and also no water or sweat on the tattooed area for at least a minimum of 48 hours.
Will it hurt?
If your scar(s) have sensation, then we make sure to apply numbing agents to the treatment area. Most of our clients describe the discomfort level as no more than about a 2 out of 10, however depending on the person and the treatment area it may be more sensitive. And of course we will be continually checking in with you to see how you’re feeling and make sure that you are comfortable during the treatment process.
What kind of training does the technician have to have?
All our Scar Camouflage and SMP tattoo practitioners have had extensive training and are knowledgable with all of these different treatments and have been through several different advanced training courses for each of these treatments. Also our facility has passed the health department check for both cleanliness and safety protocols which we take VERY seriously! Do not EVER go to a facility or technician that has not been cleared by your local health department.
Will I be able to go back to work, school, etc. straight afterwards?
Absolutely. Typically the area around your treatment may be slightly red for 48-72 hours and may also have some slight swelling, but that should subside fairly quickly and should be the only after-effect that you have.
Do you provide aftercare?
Yes – We have aftercare products available for purchase after or before your treatment(s).
Can I Get Scar Camouflage?
Is My Scarring Suitable For Treatment?
Not all scars or scarring can benefit from scar camouflage treatments.
For the best results scars should be:
- At Least 1 Year Old
- Does Not Show Too Much Redness
- Paler (Lighter) Than The Surrounding Skin
- Not Severely Sunken In

Tattoo Care - Before, During & After
- Always wash your hands before touching your scar camouflage tattoo! And always try to avoid touching, rubbing or picking at your tattoo/scar when it is healing.
- When you get home: Remove bandage within 1 - 2 hours after getting your tattoo. Do not re-bandage. Your tattoo needs to breathe, just like any open wound unless we have applied a special adhesive clear bandage that is meant to stay on for several days.
- After you have taken the bandage off of your camouflage tattoo treatment, was it with an anti-bacterial liquid soap. Be gentle, do not use a washcloth or anything that will exfoliate your tattoo. Only use your hands.
- Gently pat your tattoo dry with a paper towel. Do not rub, or use any type of fabric with a rough surface.
